Born in Sodus, New York, Macallister Boldt has a strong interest in time: the past, present, and future. He began working with portraiture of friends, but became fascinated with photographing strangers. His work centers on the ethereal, with both the subjects and the atmosphere of the work revolving around it. He also works with various mediums such as video, text, and sound.
Nostalgia became an important concept to his earlier work with the usage of archival media and photographs that evoke a timeless feeling. His more recent portraiture of older men focuses not only on the present of the men being photographed, but also his own future and the possibilities that these men represent.
Currently studying at the Rochester Institute of Technology for a BFA in photography, Macallister Boldt plans to graduate in the spring of 2021. He is currently based in Rochester, New York.
